What We Miss About the ’90s
It seems like people on social media are always debating which decade was the best, and oftentimes, people will say the ’90s. There’s something about that time that makes so many people want to go back—to a time that felt slower, easier, and more carefree. I have to admit, I often reflect on that time so fondly and miss many aspects of it. I find myself wishing we had a little more of that in today’s culture.
So, what was so special about that time?
I think it can be summed up in one word: connection.
We had less back then, but somehow, it seemed like we had more. More time with the people we loved. More time outside. More time simply being together.
It was filled with night games, days at the park with no way for anyone to get ahold of us—we just knew we had to be home before it got dark. It was hanging out with friends and family without a single person looking down at a smartphone.
We didn’t have all the distractions we have today. If we wanted to be entertained, we had to come up with something fun to do. We had to get outside, make plans, and simply enjoy the people around us.
Don’t get me wrong—I love the convenience of modern life. I especially love my phone when I need directions, want to find a new place to go, or need to quickly get information. But I also know how easily it can become a distraction from the things that matter most.
How often do we find ourselves mindlessly scrolling, completely ignoring the people sitting right next to us?
That’s one of the reasons I decided to start this blog.
I want to try to have the best of both worlds. I want the convenience of the world we live in today without losing the things that bring the most meaning to life.
Some of the things that bring me the most joy are throwing parties, planning experiences and vacations, creating memories, and simply spending time with the people I love—laughing, having fun, and enjoying life together.
When I think about the legacy I want to leave behind, that’s what I hope it will be: that I created memories, made people feel loved, and made spending time with the people I love one of the most important things in my life.
Because, to me, love is spelled T-I-M-E.
And I want to make sure I’m spending mine wisely.
So, let’s inspire one another to put down our phones a little more, look up, and enjoy the people and experiences right in front of us.
Let’s create more reasons to gather, more memories to look back on, more traditions to pass down, and more moments that remind us that life is meant to be lived together.
Maybe we can bring back a little of what made the ’90s so special—not because we need to go backward, but because there are some things from the past that are worth carrying forward.
